~Getting to know a little about Jeryl~

The Makers Note

"Natural oil based soaps are a substantial part of my everyday skin cleansing routine." ~Jeryl

Happy New Year! It's the first day of Spring 2022, may you and your family be well. In this post I explain the why  behind what I create. I started making natural body essentials because of my sensitive skin. I’ve always felt that the skin is a vital part of the body. During my teen years, I rarely had skin breakouts. My mother made sure that I drank plenty of water, tea and juice. I also ate plenty of vegetables and fruits. (to which is still a personal practice of mine) I personally credit her for teaching me the importance of skin care (inside and out). I was taught to clean my skin at least twice a day and to always keep my pillowcases and bed sheets washed. Skin care doesn't always just mean washing the skin, but it also includes other things.

Having sensitive skin usually can be contributed to genetics or poor skin hygiene. As there are many different skin types, it is vital to know what generally works for the type of skin that is being taken care of. My skin has changed through the years. I have dealt with acne in my adult years. I've found that I need different types of skin infusions depending on what I am experiencing. This is where having natural soaps, oils, clays, and so on are a benefit for me. Many years ago, I wasn't privy to much information on the use of mineral clays in soap. My go to add in ingredients included herbs, oats, goats milk and sometimes salts. Mineral clays are truly a great addition to some soaps.

My candle making started simply because I love a nicely scented candle in each room of my home. My husband purchased me my very first candle making kit and the rest is history. When I wasn't able to make candles, I would purchase them from local vendors and local stores. Candle making has changed so much and now there are many options to choose. I am not a one kind fits all type of person, therefore this is why I work with more than one wax type. I do believe in my scents being free of phthalates. Some of the newer waxes offer much more environmental friendly options, which are very nice.

Lastly, my love for growing herbs and how they have been of many uses for me in positive ways. Mother earth extends her natural remedies for anyone who wants to experience it. Simple herbs can be found in some of our most common areas. It is very important to keep in mind that common herbs with common uses can be beneficial in yet some of the smallest of increments. Herbs in their dried form can be found in just about any grocer. Living herbs can be home grown or nursery grown, but they also are in some grocery stores as well. Herbs in fresh form can be quiet powerful and should be used in smaller quantities than dried herbs. There is an herb that was placed on this earth for just about anything thought of. Herbs are plentiful and can be of good use inside the body and outside the body as well. I like to have a hot cup of chamomile tea on most evenings, because of its calming properties. It soothes the skin in pure soap while giving off its antibacterial greatness.

In my spare time when I am not creating soaps, making candles, infusing oils, or tending to my small herb garden; I love to spend time with my immediate family. I also enjoy reading, writing, flower gardening, designing along with many other hobbies.
